It’s been over one year since we started Fellow Traveler. And as 2013 continues the journey, there is uncertainty, excitement, and an ongoing desire to bring our best to the stage and songs – and our friends and family who are simply awesome. For me it continues a lifelong dream to have a band, and perform my songs in the Seattle music scene. And, let me tell you – we’re not perfect. But we’re a far cry from where we started. And that’s what keeps us playing.
Ryan and I first started playing in around July/August 2011. Working in the same office, and sharing a same fondness for rendering conversations into song, we decided to call into council our first GN’R Friday where we would pay homage to the songs of our childhood rock heroes… Guns N’ Roses of course. Only one problem. Yeah, I didn’t actually know any Guns N’ Roses songs on the guitar. And, I really didn’t remember much of the lyrics either. But that’s cool, cause before I learned to play music, I learned how to pretend.
Spinning from GNR Fridays, to unicorn inspired rock, we eventually realized that we each had real songs. With rough spots on the edges, we eventually brought ourselves to an open mic at West Seattle’s Skylark. For one night only, we became The Beards of Burden. Beards? Yeah… I know. You can ask Ryan.

It’s at this time that I will reassure you. I believe we’ve gotten better. But, don’t take my word for it. My girlfriend says so too. And if that’s still not enough, my mother says so as well.
Point is this – with one year down, and a lot of life that’s occurred – we’re looking forward to what’s next. More shows. More songs. Lots of fun.
It’s good to be a Fellow Traveler.
Next show’s on Friday, Feb 8th, 2013 at the Skylark in West Seattle.
